Recovery Tracks & Recovery Boards  PRODUCT OVERVIEW

OPENROAD 4WD recovery tracks are the ultimate traction solution for any off-road enthusiast. Whether you’re navigating the red sands of the Simpson Desert, slogging through Queensland mud or edging across alpine snow drifts, these recovery boards deliver the grip you need to keep going. Designed and tested in Australia’s toughest terrains, they pack down small enough for your roof rack or bull bar mount yet stack up to provide exceptional leverage when you’re stuck fast.

Constructed from a UV-stabilised nylon composite, OPENROAD recovery tracks balance rigidity and flex for reliable performance in temperatures from –20 °C to +60 °C. At just 3.0 kg per board and only 2 cm thick, they’re lighter and lower-profile than many competitors, yet rated to withstand the harshest conditions. Each set includes quick-release stainless-steel mounting pins that clip into T-slot channels or an optional base plate, plus heavy-duty carry straps—so your recovery gear is always at hand when you need it most.

What are recovery tracks?
Recovery tracks are portable traction devices designed to help 4WD vehicles get unstuck from sand, mud, snow, or loose terrain. Placed under the tyres, they provide extra grip so the wheels can climb out of bogged conditions without needing a tow. Recovery tracks are lightweight, easy to carry, and are considered an essential part of any off-road recovery kit.
Are recovery tracks suitable for all 4WD vehicles?
Yes. Recovery tracks are designed to work with all types of 4WD vehicles, including SUVs, utes, and off-road trucks. As long as the tyres can sit securely on the track, they will provide extra traction in sand, mud, or snow. Just make sure to position them correctly under the tyres and avoid spinning the wheels excessively, which could damage the tracks.
How to use recovery tracks?
Clear the area – Remove excess sand, mud, or snow from around the tyres if possible.
First, place the tracks – Wedge the recovery tracks firmly under the front (or rear) tyres in the direction you want to drive.
Then, drive slowly – Gently accelerate to allow the tyres to grip the tracks; avoid spinning the wheels too fast, which may damage the tracks.
Retrieve the tracks – Once free, collect the tracks, clean off any debris, and store them for next use.
Recovery tracks are most effective when used early, before the vehicle sinks too deep, and they can often double as a shovel for clearing loose material.
Do recovery tracks work in snow as well as sand?
Yes. Recovery tracks are effective in snow as well as sand, mud, and other soft terrain. The textured surface and deep lugs provide grip for the tyres, preventing them from spinning in place. In snowy conditions, placing the tracks under your tyres can help your vehicle climb out of compacted snow or icy patches just as effectively as they do in loose sand.
What is the load rating / weight capacity of the recovery tracks?
The OPENROAD recovery tracks are rated to support up to 10 tonnes (10,000 kg) of vehicle weight, making them suitable for heavy 4WDs, utes, and off-road trucks. The reinforced design and durable material ensure they can handle the weight of fully loaded vehicles without bending or cracking when used correctly.
