Get ready for any off-road challenge with the OPENROAD 4×4 Recovery Kit. Includes heavy-duty snatch strap, recovery tracks, tree trunk protector, and more—designed for tough terrain and safe recoveries
A 4×4 Recovery Kit is a curated set of essential off-road rescue tools designed to help you self-recover when your 4WD gets stuck. It typically includes kinetic snatch strap for shock-absorbing pulls, tree trunk protector to protect both trees and gear, stackable recovery tracks for traction in sand or mud, plus accessories like soft shackles and carry pouches—everything you need for safe, controlled recoveries in the Aussie bush.
As a rule, carry at least two recovery tracks—one under each drive wheel—to give both tyres traction on a stuck axle. In deeper sand or mud, daisy-chain extra boards for a longer grip ramp. If you often tackle extreme terrain, a full set of four ensures you can recover dual-axle rigs—OPENROAD’s slim, recovery tracks make carrying multiple tracks a breeze.
To deploy a snatch strap, hook each end to rated recovery points on both vehicles using soft shackles—never attach to tow balls or bumpers. Position the recovery vehicle inline 5–10 m away, remove excess slack (leave about 1 m for stretch), then accelerate steadily to 15–25 km/h so the strap’s 20–35 % elongation stores kinetic energy and yanks the stuck rig free. Always drape a winch dampener or heavy blanket over the midpoint, keep bystanders well clear, and inspect your strap for cuts or wear before stowing in its mesh pouch.
After each use, rinse off mud, sand and salt, then dry every component completely. Inspect straps for fraying, soft shackles for wear, and boards for cracks—replace any damaged parts. Store everything in its pouch in a cool, dry spot out of direct sunlight to prevent UV damage and corrosion.
Wrap the wide polyester webbing around the trunk so its broad surface spreads the load without cutting into bark. Neoprene sleeves at each end cushion against abrasion, shielding both the tree and the strap for a secure, low-impact anchor.
