What is a Shower Awning?

A shower awning is a compact, easy-to-set-up extension for your 4WD that provides privacy and shelter for outdoor showers. Designed to be attached to the side or rear of your vehicle, it usually features waterproof, UV-resistant fabric and includes walls or side panels to keep the elements out. Ideal for camping and overlanding, it allows you to enjoy a warm shower anywhere, while keeping you shielded from wind, sun, and rain.

What is the difference between a Shower Tent and a Shower Awning?

A Shower Awning is a vehicle-mounted shower enclosure that unfolds directly from your 4WD or camper. It is quicker to set up—usually in under a minute—and saves space since it is stored on your vehicle. However, it needs to stay attached to the vehicle, so it cannot be moved around freely like a shower tent.

A Shower Tent is a free-standing tent that provides a private space for showering or changing. It can be set up anywhere at the campsite and does not rely on your vehicle. This makes it portable and versatile, though it usually takes a bit longer to set up and pack away.

Both options give you privacy and comfort while camping, and the right choice depends on whether you prefer portability or the convenience of a vehicle-mounted setup.

What camping showers are compatible?

Yes. Built from 125D oxford cloth, the shower tent awning material is waterproof, UV-resistant, and completely opaque, ensuring both privacy and durability in all conditions.

How easy is it to set up?

The shower awning deploys in minutes — unzip the bag, swing down the panels, and secure the poles. It’s quicker than most tent showers for camping, making it ideal if you need a fast setup at the campsite or roadside..

Can I use the Shower Awning for more than just showers?

Absolutely. It doubles as a change room, portable toilet shelter, or privacy tent — perfect for beach trips, outback tracks, or festivals.

OPENROAD Shower Awning

Overall I am happy with the product. When closing, one of the bands to secure the fabric was sewn backwards, so it is annoying but not a big deal. Also, when the awning is open, the 2 bars that hold it sag a little and do not look as steady as other awnings I've seen.
