We love the outdoors — wind included. But when conditions turn, your awning needs real support. That’s why OPENROAD uses dual-layer aluminium alloy swing arms that are built to resist corrosion, paired with reinforced bracing and heavy-duty hinges for confident, stable deployment. Strong where it counts, lighter on your roof setup — made for real Aussie touring.
Our 270 freestanding awning was rigorously wind-tested in real-world Melbourne conditions. Through open-air trials, we determined its freestanding rating of 30 km/h and pegged rating of 60 km/h. Our tests compared BOM forecast data with actual onsite wind measurements to ensure reliable, real-world results.
Compared to standard PU coatings, the OPENROAD 270 awning is powered by our next-gen Eclipse Shade Technology™️ — a high-density blackout system engineered to block harsh Aussie UV and slash tent temperatures. Combined with durable 230gsm Oxford polyester and a 3000mm waterproof rating, it delivers cooler shade, stronger UV protection and reliable rain defence. Wherever you camp, Eclipse Shade keeps you safe, comfortable and ready for the elements.
Ever felt like your camp lights were too harsh — or just not right? Each OPENROAD awning features an integrated, dimmable tri-colour LED strip with white, warm yellow and amber modes. Cook in bright white, unwind in warm light, or switch to amber to help reduce bugs around camp. Less gear in your rig, more freedom under the awning
Click it in and your awning stops being a puddle tray—it becomes a roof. This compact support lifts the canopy to create a positive drainage fall that channels rain to the edge and off in seconds, so there’s no pooling, no sag and less flap when it’s bucketing down. Your camp stays drier, the fabric and arms take less strain, and pack-up is cleaner with no surprise tip-outs.
When you roll the awning back, push each hinged arm toward the housing so the fabric and zipper stay aligned — this prevents the canvas from bunching and makes the zipper easy to close.
Tip: do one arm at a time and don’t force the zipper; realign and try again.
270 AWNING SIDE WALL
Shielding you from the sun in summer, and from wind and rain in winter.
On ordering the 270 awning and awning walls I felt a good product was being purchased.
The awning arrived - without the walls , and the delivery just left it at the front door ! A $650 product left at the front door and no notification of any sort about the delivery.
I contacted your group about the awning walls - stock was being ordered from China and would be a further 4 weeks away. I would be kept informed when the walls arrived in Australia.
The walls arrived without any notice , without any contact as promised , and the delivery left them down the side of our house beside the rubbish bins ……..
No notification of the $600 walls being delivered , no notice of the walls being left beside the rubbish bins. We happened to be on holiday at the time. Thankfully the walls were not stolen or put in the rubbish bins.
The gear works , but no part of the purchase or delivery meets any reasonable standard. The interest we have had using the awning has been flattering , and after detailing the appalling purchase/communications/and delivery issues the campers and caravaners shake their heads and decide to consider other brands.
It has been a deplorable purchase experience we will not forget quickly. At every point of the purchase and delivery we were set up for failure.
Hi
I’ve actually already done a review!, however I’m that impressed that I just ordered the walls plus the shower awning, order number 6719.
Hopefully you can discount the 15% for me ; ).
When my order is delivered I will take photos and post another review.
I’m sure the quality will be great as the 270 awning is pretty awesome!.

For the price the build quality is amazing. This is my first ever 270 awning so it's definitely set the bar pretty high for me... Love the built in lights, poles and ease of use.
Only downfall for me was I had to cut some of the bolts and fixings to suit my roof-rack slots but otherwise no issue got it done!
Sorry, it’s taken a while for the review…. Been busy, the moment I received it I wacked it on and off l went Ha.
TBH, for price and my first ever 270 degree awning I’m shocked. The LED lights are a bonus.
Quality and installation is so simple & great… Just abit harder if you’ve got a 2.4m high car. Overall if l could give it 5 stars I would. 10/10 rating l will.
Price, delivery, budget and quality is exceptional you can’t complain or go wrong with the extra room. The price… It was very good including shipping. l didn’t really look at other brands or competitors. I was more drawn to the black to match my car and RTT, led lights and how everyone who purchased it was happy.
I went with the XL awning and would recommend it to anyone that is looking at an awning. Don’t get the standalone one get the 270 because Bigger is always better!
Over the past 10 months since purchasing this awning, I have been able to enjoy more outdoor activities comfortably.
Even my wife, who dislikes collecting camping gear, praises it as the best choice she has no regrets about.
I believe it is the best value awning that I can't help but recommend.
Absolutely love my open road 270 awning.
Just returned home from Cape York and I’m soo glad we had it. It’s soo quick and easy to set up and pack up, survived the corrugated roads and the Old Telegraph track and didn’t even have one bolt come loose.
When I was doing my research into awnings the customer service from Mark was amazing. He was very helpful in deciding what will work best for my 200 series and offered guidance regarding alternative brackets to suit the roof platform I have. To be honest, I went with Open road because of the amazing customer service from Mark and I’m very happy I did.
Had the open road 270 for six months now and have used it on both my patrols
For the cost and the quality and what features I think it’s one of the best value awnings on the market
I’m going to do a basic review video on my YouTube channel soon
I am also keen on the rooftop tent
Great item easy to setup and pack up. Really looked into 270 awnings before finally deciding on openroad. All the features and at an awesome price. Cheers legends
Pretty easy install, took two hours for a 71 year old on his own.
I've had the old girl for 26 years she now looks the part with a flash 270 awning.
I love the simplicity of setting up and packing away.
Openroad 270° Awning
An Absolute Game-Changer
I cannot recommend this 270° awning enough! If you spend a lot of time off-grid, this is easily one of the most useful pieces of gear you can add to your rig.
The biggest selling point for me is how incredibly fast it is to set up. When I pull up to a spot, the last thing I want to do is fight with poles and guy ropes. This awning deploys in seconds, giving me massive, instant coverage over both the side and rear of the vehicle.
It has proven to be extremely handy for everyday camp life. Whether I'm firing up the BBQ, pulling out the espresso maker in the morning, or just needing quick, solid shelter from unpredictable weather out in the Blue Mountains, it handles it all perfectly. It creates a huge, covered base area that ties in seamlessly with my roof top tent and LED lighting.
If you're on the fence about getting one, just do it. The sheer speed of the setup and how incredibly practical it is makes camp life so much easier. Highly recommended!
A big shout-out to Mark John for his exceptional customer service and outstanding products. If you're looking for quality 4WD accessories at great prices, Openroad 4X4 is the place to go. You'll save a lot of money without compromising on quality. Highly recommended — 5 out of 5 stars!
I fitted an Open Road 270 Awning to my NX Pajero and have been extremely impressed with it. The build quality is exceptional, especially for the price. Everything from the frame to the canvas feels solid and well-engineered, and it sets up quickly to provide excellent coverage whether you're camping, touring, or just stopping for a break.
After using it, I've been recommending it to other four-wheel-drive owners. In fact, only last week I recommended one to another Pajero owner who was looking for a quality 270 awning without the premium price tag.
It's refreshing to find a product that delivers such great value without compromising on quality. If you're considering a 270 awning for your touring setup, the Open Road 270 is definitely worth a look.
Unreal awning, sturdy, sleek and so easy to set up. 30 second set up and just as quick of a pack up, Inbuilt lights are awesome, material is nice with a great water run off system.
Would honestly recommend to someone looking for their first awning, especially a free standing.
Fitted my awning , and that weekend I was off to Blackbutt camping...
Have to say , looked at a few 270's was a toss up with bushwacca and open road, and open road won and the $$$ was bloody fair and reasonable....
I'll be back for more products soon...
Love the 270 free-standing awning — it provides perfect shelter and excellent UV protection. The quality is outstanding; it’s very robust and features great LED lights at night, creating a really cool vibe.
Perfect for long beach days. Set up by one person is a breeze. Pack. Sometimes I have to jiggle the main hinge a bit when packing up to get it flat. There must be a knack to this that I’m not quite getting
